Very excited for America to get to know Chris Gethard tonight. I’ve been lucky to know Chris for a decade and I still remember how funny he was in his Level 2 UCB improv show. Chris is one of the nicest guys ever, he has Morrissey’s signature tattooed on his arm and could kill you with his bare hands using Jujitsu.
This week on Sirius XMU…
This week my friend Horatio Sanz will be hanging out with me on my radio show on Sirius XM. He’ll be in every day at 10:00 AM ET starting Tuesday on Sirius XMU (Sirius Channel 26 / XM Channel 43).
Horatio’s new TV show “Big Lake” starts Tuesday at 10:00 PM on Comedy Central. I’ve seen three episodes so far and it’s hilarious! Take a look:
The show also stars Chris Parnell and Chris Gethard. It’s produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Yup. Everyone involved with “Big Lake” is totally awesome.
Also, I’m doing the monologues at Asssscat tomorrow at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York. Always a great time, come by if you’re around!
TAKE BACK THE WATERMELONS
Chris Gethard has taken a stand for comedians everywhere.
As I’m sure many of you know, comedian Gallagher used to allow his younger brother Ron to perform shows as “Gallagher Too.” “Gallagher Too” was an exact copy of Gallagher’s act with one very minor difference - “Gallagher Too” didn’t smash watermelons.
That was the agreement between the two brothers. Gallagher was fine with his little brother performing his entire act as “Gallagher Too” but under no circumstances was he to smash a watermelon on stage. if you wanted to see Gallagher’s “Sledge-O-Matic” routine, you had to spend the extra cash and see Gallagher, not “Gallagher Too.”
This arrangement between the Gallagher brothers worked well for many years. However, things took an ugly turn when word started getting back to Gallagher that his littler brother “Gallagher Too” was in fact, smashing watermelons on-stage. This betrayal forced Gallagher to sue his little brother for trademark violations and false advertising. Gallagher won the lawsuit putting an end to “Gallagher Too” for good.
Enter Chris Gethard…
I applaud Chris for taking on Gallagher and giving comedians, NO, make that AMERICANS — giving ALL OF US the freedom to smash watermelons on stage and be paid handsomely for it. Chris Gethard is urging you to TAKE THE FRUIT BACK.
Chris Gethard recently had Morrisey’s signature tattooed on his arm. Read his blog here.
