I kind of owe everything in my life to public access television and it’s awesome to see what Chris Gethard is doing with it today. His show reminds me a lot of Glenn O’Brien’s, TV Party.
From 1978-1982 Glenn did one of the coolest things to ever be on television. Chris Stein from Blondie was his co-host. Jean-Michel Basquiat hung out in the control room and made art with a character generator. Klaus Nomi would give cooking demonstrations. David Letterman was a fan.
Here is a 90 minute documentary on TV Party. You should watch it. It’s important.
