Twitter is PRETTY COOL.

Last Thursday, as I was leaving Sirius XM, I walked by NBC and noticed the standby line for SNL had started waaaaaaay earlier than usual.  Clearly the forces of Miley were in effect.

NBC hands out standby tickets for SNL early Saturday morning on a first come, first serve basis. There’s no guarantee you’ll actually get in to the show - it’s kind of a 50/50 shot.  So to see a line of kids out there, ready to brave the cold for 48+ hours to maybe get to see Miley Cyrus host SNL… well, I thought at the very least that deserved a Twitpic!

I took a photo, wrote a tweet and headed back downtown.  By the time I got off the train, my tweet had been re-tweeted a bunch and had actually made it to cellphones of the first two people in line.  So that’s Twitter for ya!

They wrote me a message letting me know that their quest for SNL standby tickets was actually more about seeing THE STROKES than Miley Cyrus. At that moment, I instantly became emotionally involved with their saga.

Since we’re playing the new Strokes stuff on both Alt Nation and Sirius XMU, I made sure to talk about their SNL standby quest on the air.  The Sirius XM office is just across the street from NBC so I even made sure to go by and check up on them.  I met one of those girls Molly and asked her if they needed anything, but they were well prepared for battle (sleeping bags and smart energy snacks).  Sadly I missed her friend Emily who was inside 30 Rock covertly charging her cellphone. Hopefully NBC wont send them a bill for the electricity charges.

They really had an amazing adventure.  Questlove tweeted about them. They got to take pictures with The Strokes. Everyone was really pulling for these two girls who braved the elements for DAYS just for the chance to make it into Studio 8H on Saturday night. When I got the word from them via Twitter that they had indeed, gotten into SNL dress rehearsal*, I was very psyched for them!

They had the two worst seats in the studio.

And that is AWESOME.  Studio 8H is tiny and I’m fully convinced the air in that room is like no other Oxygen on our planet. ANY seat in there is a good one and always provides a magical experience.

I’m a fan.  I love being a fan.  Hell, i’ve made a career out of being a fan! And yes, it is a little crazy to wait in line 48 hours just to see some dumb rock band on some dumb TV show, but I totally get it.  And these two girls did it with total class and awesomeness.

Globochem alerted me to Molly’s blog chronicling her and Emily’s SNL standby adventure.  Take a look, especially if you’re into reading things that provide copious amounts of smiles:

Congrats Emily and Molly!

*Protip: If you’re ever thinking about waiting for standby SNL tickets, do what Molly and Emily did: take the tickets for dress rehearsal. It’s cooler. They do more scenes, it’s a longer Update and you’ll see a bunch of stuff that doesn’t make it to air for the live show.

If I were Miley Cyrus’ boyfriend and had to answer the question…

“Jake, what did you think of the YouTube video I just posted with the rap song explaining why I decided to stop using Twitter?”

I would smile, look right into her eyes and say…

“Miley, I’ll have to answer your question with a question… How quickly are you going to give me a handjob to distract me from the fact that I’m dating, for lack of a better description, a complete fucking twerp?”

After the handjob is completed I would go straight to my laptop and delete my twitter account as well.  I’d say to my wildly age inappropriate pop star girlfriend…

“You’re right Miley, I’m going to start living in the moment too!  I’m so lucky Jesus brought you into my life!”

Then I would buy things using her credit card.
