I do like Of Montreal. They came up to Sirius XMU last year and were really nice dudes. I remember it being a good interview.
Yup, jakefogelnest as my username on everything except for YouTube. Someone grabbed it and the account is suspended. I had to settle for http://www.youtube.com/jfogelnest which totally blows.
If I didn’t use jakefogelnest as a screen name, I would probably go with GernBlanston. I’ve used that in the past for some stuff. Actually crazy story about the screen name GernBlanston…
I used to have the e-mail address GernBlanston@aol.com and randomly every once in a while I would get e-mail that was meant for Judd Apatow. One time I actually got a full draft of an upcoming “Freaks and Geeks” episode they were writing.
I figured out pretty quickly what was going on: Judd and I had both decided to use the same obscure Steve Martin reference as our screen name. He’d probably spelled it differently and people would get confused. That’s how I’d end up with his e-mail.
Since Judd was probably wondering where the hell Mike White’s latest draft of the “Kim Kelly Is My Friend” episode was, I decided to call the “Freaks and Geeks” production office and explain the situation. Turns out I was exactly right. Judd’s e-mail was Gern Blanston - spelled slightly differently. For the record MY version was the correct spelling.
It was funny. I asked Judd’s assistant, “Hey since I have this script… is it cool if I read it?” Of course she said yes. I think they were just happy I was a fan of the show and not some jerk who was going to e-mail their script all over the place!
I distinctly remember reading a page or two of this script, recognizing it as “Freaks and Geeks” and thinking, “Whoa I’m not supposed to be looking at this!” I guess that’s kind of ridiculous but, I loved the show so much and had so much respect for Judd Apatow (still do), I just didn’t feel right reading it without asking!
So yeah - i’d go with GernBlanston as an alternate screen name. It’s a screen name with quite a legacy attached to it.
It’s also Steve Martin’s “real” name.
