[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

For the last few mornings the team behind CNBC’s “Squawk Box” have talked about listening to the indie rock station I work for, Sirius XMU. Hopefully they’ll consider adding Carles from Hipster Runoff as the official CNBC “Blogosphere Business Content Farming Correspondent.”

Thanks, “Squawk Box” team!

Jake Fogelnest: Top 10 Albums Of 2010

As a very important member of the media elite and the New York City glitterati, I present my incredibly prestigious list of the top ten albums of 2010.  This list should be taken very seriously as my opinion carries a great deal of weight.  I’m a very big deal.

10) Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street (Reissue)

Oh, I’m supposed to pick new records?  Sorry, some new indie rock bullshit had to get knocked out because the Stones put this record out again this year.  Sometimes a deluxe re-master of a record is totally unnecessary.  This is not one of those cases.  This is the fucking Rolling fucking Stones in 19 fucking 72.  Everything else is kinda bullshit, ya know?  Get the super expensive version for the bonus documentary “Stones In Exile” (or buy it as a separate DVD).

9) The Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

Legally obligated to put this album on my top-ten list if I want to retain the faux-credibility I’ve established in the indie rock community.  Also, I like that song “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains).”

8) Various Artists - Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World was the best movie evaaaaaaaaar!  The soundtrack is equally full of win.  I totally wanna make out with Envy Adams (even though she’s a total bitch) just because that “Black Sheep” song by Metric is so good.  Can you imagine how dumb it would’ve been to not include the Frank Black song “I Heard Ramona Sing?” Edgar Wright is awesome so of course they did.  And who better to write the songs for Sex-Bob-Omb than Beck?  Honorable mention goes out to Nigel Goodrich’s original score (sold as a separate release), if only for the 8-Bit version of the Universal Pictures theme.

7) The Black Keys - Brothers

I’ve heard this album played in hip restaurants and clothing stores.  I also appreciate the use of the font Cooper Black. The Black Keys make a lot of rock for two dudes.  Also they made me laugh when they came through Sirius XM.

6) The Germs - Live At The Starwood, December 3rd, 1980

You have to order this one special from Rhino Handmade but it’s a must have for any Germs fan.  This is the band’s final show, recorded live at Eddie Nash’s Starwood in Hollywood just a few days before Darby Crash committed suicide (on the same night John Lennon was shot).  Legend has it this was the best show The Germs ever played. Make sure to check out their cover of  “Public Image” by PIL.

5) Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Live At Hollywood High

This was the first album I bought off iTunes in 2010.  Recorded in 1978, Elvis Costello was 23 years old, hot off his notorious appearance on “Saturday Night Live” and basically the coolest fucking dude on the planet.  I can’t imagine what it must have been like to have seen this show live.  So glad an audio record exists.

4) Sleigh Bells - Treats

This band has a blatant disregard for proper modulation and it’s awesome.

3) Wavves - King Of The Beach

I had a very good time interviewing these guys up at Sirius XMU this year.  They use a lot of reverb and it sounds cool,  I like this band because they understand that pop songs are supposed to follow a “verse, chorus, verse” formula.  Some “indie rockers” get all “artistic” and it’s “gaytarded.”  Not Wavves though.  These guys make good songs.

2) Best Coast - Crazy For You

Best Coast know a thing or two about how to write a perfect pop song.  Also Bethany Cosentino’s cat is on Twitter.  I want @egonthecat and @snacksthecat to be best friends and go on cat adventures.  I just wish that Carles from Hipster Runoff wasn’t such a ball buster.  Lol why u mad Carles?  Why you gotta make h8 a meme?  What did Bethany do except be awesome and make a really great record and chill out smoking some pot?  You think you’re sooooooooooo cool but you’re soooooooooo mean.  Seriously though I like this record a whole lot.  Best Coast make me happy.

1) DEVO - Something For Everybody

Devo made the perfect Devo record for 2010.  I think everyone knows how much I love this record.  I don’t think there’s a band I blogged about more this year.  Here’s a brief interview I did with Mark Mothersbaugh and Gerald Casale up at Sirius XM a few months ago.

So there ya go.  Those are my top 10 records of 2010.

U mad?

<3 you Carles! @hipsterrunoff why u h8 me? I’m just being Miley! Why you h8 @snacksthecat? He just being kitteh!

So rad!  Will Arnett is the best!  Sarah Schaefer just sent this to me.  It’s on the awesome Late Night with Jimmy Fallon website!  Thanks you guys!  That’s the coolest.

Don’t forget - Horatio Sanz is hanging out with me all week long on Sirius XMU every day at 10:00 AM EST.  Here’s a clip from yesterday’s show featuring Horatio talking about Julian Casablancas covering his classic christmas song from SNL!

If you haven’t heard Julian’s amazing version of “I Wish It Was Christmas Today” here you go!

Horatio’s new show, “Big Lake” premiered last night on Comedy Central.  Make sure to check it out!  Unless of course you hate watching very humorous things on television.  If that’s the case, sorry about the whole “being dead inside” thing. That must suck.
